arnhem central station

the station is the result of an ambitious 20-year project – master planned by unstudio – to redevelop the wider station area; the largest post-war development in arnhem. backed by the dutch government, this transfer hub rewrites the rulebook on train stations and is the most complex of its type in europe.

summertime building

the ‘summertime’ complex consists of two pixelated towers. by arranging apartments as three-dimensional ‘pixels’ the architects were able to maximize views, sunlight and privacy within a high-density urban environment. thus, the relative distance between the apartments is enlarged, a large variety of outdoor space is provided and the individual readability of the apartments is enhanced.

python brug

a lot of beautiful and unusual bridges can be seen in amsterdam. among them must be mentioned above all python bridge or the serpentine bridge. the distinctive name of the bridge perfectly reflects its main feature. the metal bridge is characterized by the unusual snakelike shape. the bridge is equipped with a lot of scarlet webs with beautiful railings, which makes their shape even more attractive.

the bridge is linking borneo island with the sporenburg peninsula was opened in 2001. the bridge is located in the center of amsterdam, next to the striking historical monuments. a few years ago, the workers at the west 8 architectural office decided to freshen up the city center and built this strange high-tech bridge reminiscent of the giant meandering python.

the color of the bridge was chosen randomly and has no special symbolism. In a few years, „python“ bridge became a must for many excursion programs through amsterdam, attracting not only curious tourists but also builders from different countries.

ozw

the ozw health care and well-being training institute is a new landmark for the architectural landscape of the vu university. it symbolizes an innovative training concept that combines intermediate and higher level vocational training programmes and university programmes.

the window spacing emphasizes the verticality and main outlines of the exterior and immediately draws attention to the transparency and vitality of the interior: a playful combination of training centres around atria. from the south side, the atria gradually and diagonally lend access to the facilities. long sightlines reduce the size of the building.

geert groote college amsterdam

in 2010 work began on the construction of a five-storey building with 4000 m² of floor space. this extension was necessary in order to provide extra space for the 750 pupils and some one hundred members of staff of the geert groote college.

the architectural office search designed the new building, which also takes its cue from anthroposophical ideas and ‘organic’ architecture. the architects aimed to design a building with a distinct architectural presence but which was also in keeping with the style of the existing complex. by avoiding right angles and by employing trapezium shapes and red accents in the design, the new building fits in well with the existing organic architecture of 1997.

rozet cultural centre

rozet was designed as an urban elongation of the central route between the station area and the church square. the core of rozet is formed as a glazed interior route which intersects the building on all floors. a lingering public gallery with a sequence of attractive squares which function as entrances for the various institutions and reflect the synergy between them.

occasionally the interior street takes the shape of an exhibition hall or foyer, at other times it functions as an auditorium or an ascending reading room with study sites. the visibility of this interior street from outside as well as the apparent programming on the inside of the building in the showcase windows, led displays, book cases and illuminated billboards strengthen the public identity of the building on both street and city level.
